I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day - either spending time with your children or spending time with your own mother. It's interesting to be on the other side of the holiday - to actually BE a mother, rather than just a child doting on my mom. Even though this is my fourth official year as a mom, sometimes it still seems funny to think people are honoring me on this holiday.
I remember when I was young and Mother's day or Father's day would roll around and I would always ask "why don't they have a Children's day?" And my mother would answer "everyday is children's day." Oh how I get it now. And every year I would ask my dad what he wanted for Father's day and he would routinely answer "Peace and quiet." I always thought he was being snarky and I'd insist "I want a REAL answer" But oh how I understand that answer now!! Yes, peace and quiet would be supreme.
When my husband asked what I wanted for Mother's day I said "a walk. by myself with my headphones and no obligations to push a stroller and walk at the pace of a preschooler and no obligations to tell dinosaur stories. Just me, my headphones and the open road."
I got my walk yesterday and it was fabulous. And some peach azalea bushes that are beautiful. It was a great day.
