Today on the blog tour I'll be interviewing Megan Frazer, author of  SECRETS OF TRUTH AND BEAUTY.

About Secrets of Truth & Beauty

Secrets of Truth & Beauty -- When Dara Cohen was little, she was crowned Little Miss Maine. That was then. Now Dara's seventeen and she's not so little anymore. That's just one of her many problems. Another is that her control-freak mom won't get off her case about anything. Yet the one that hurts the most is the family secret: Dara has an older sister her parents tried to erase from their lives.

About Megan Frazer

Megan Frazer studied English literature and creative writing at Columbia University. She lives with her husband and baby in Maine, where she is a high school librarian. She loves cheese and cooking, and both of these make their way into Secrets of Truth & Beauty. She was not, however, ever in a beauty pageant.

Now on to the interview:
Me: Hi, Welcom and congratulations on your debut! First question: What competes for your time and how do you manage to give writing the appropriate amount of time it requires?

Megan What doesn't compete for time? My somewhat workable solution is that I try to stay half an hour after work every day to write. I was inspired by this post from Cory Doctorow: http://www.locusmag.com/Features/2009/01/cory-doctorow-writing-in-age-of.html

Me: Wow! No one has given me a link before! I'll have to check it out!  What is your writing routine? Do you outline or write as you go? Do you fully sketch and develop your main character initially, or get to know him/her as you write?

Megan: I usually know roughly where I'm going, but other than that, I just write and develop as I go. I write linearly. Sometimes I get an idea for a scene or an event that should happen down the road, and I make a note of it, and then write it when I get there.

Me: I write linearly, also. It's confusing for me to do things out of order. What do you particularly love about the setting you portray in your book?

Megan:I want to live at the farm I portray in my book. It's cozy and there's good food and great people around. It was fun to write -- to go to that place, even when bad things were happening there. It was much easier to write at the farm than the scenes before the farm.

Me: What actor or actress do you imagine playing your main character in a movie or T.V. version of your book?

Megan:Dara is overweight, and there aren't many not super skinny actresses out there. I don't want some starlet to put on all this weight and have it be a big deal ("OMG she got fat for a role!"). I'd rather it be a newcomer who is her size. Now, as for Rachel, I think Jennifer Garner or Maggie Gyllenhaal would be a wonderful choice.

Me: Oh, yes - it would be like Renee Zellweger - getting money for every pound she put on to play Bridget Jones!! and I love both Jennifer Garner and Maggie Gyllenhaal - great! congratulations on your debut!
