Ally Carter at DBF

Last weekend I had the amazing pleasure of meeting Ally Carter, author of "I'd Tell You I Love You, but Then I'd Have to Kill You" and all of the Gallagher Girls books.

She gave a fantastic talk at the teen tent at the Decatur Book Festival. She was so energetic and enthusiastic and such an inspiration. She talked openly about how much fun writing can be but also the struggles and insecurities associated with the field.

After her lecture, I got "Don't Judge a Girl by Her Cover" signed and Ally spent some time talking to me and congratulating me on my debut (how gracious!)

One of the things that we spoke about was that her background was in economics - not english or creative writing. I loved hearing this since my background is in chemistry and optometry and sometimes I secretly worry, what makes me think that I know how to write???

Thanks, Ally, for giving all us debuting/struggling writers the encouragement to keep going!
